A credit union is a not for profit financial institution owned by its members. Each member opens a share account; that share represents their ownership in the credit union. Unlike the stock market, you cannot purchase multiple shares in order to own a larger portion of the credit union. It is very important that each member has an equal share regardless of their account balance. The shares are collected within the credit union so that we can make loans to other members. Excess funds that are not lent out are invested so that we can earn revenue which is then turned into higher yield rates on our savings products.
The biggest difference between a credit union and a traditional bank is that you have a voice. You’re not just an account number putting money in the pockets of shareholders. Your opinions and your experiences at Credit Union of the Rockies matter, and we invite you to share with us.
Want to Get Involved?
Credit Union of the Rockies holds an annual meeting every year and all members are not only welcome, but encouraged to come. This is an opportunity to voice your opinion, learn more, and on occasion, vote on important credit union matters. Feel free to call us about our next scheduled annual meeting.
